AMELHOF

Charming bed and breaskfast in Meise in Belgium

The story of a nostalgic old farmhouse turned into a luxurious and charming bed and breakfast near Brussels and Meise's botanical garden

THE ATMOSPHERE

Formerly a farmhouse built in 1841 and inhabited by monks, the B&B has been completely renovated and modernized to open its doors in early 2019. The modernity of the B&B contrasts with the nostalgia of the barn and its cobbled courtyard overlooked by a small chapel. Built in 1637, the baroque style chapel of Amelgem is open to the public, but you can only access it by asking the key to the guest house manager. In the small village of Meise, which overlooks the city of Brussels in the distance, you should not miss the famous botanical garden, also called "plantentuin Meise".

THE HOTEL

You enter the old farmhouse through a friendly kitchen, open to the common room and the living room. This authentic room serves as a reception area for the inhabitants as well as for breakfast (18 eur) .  There are 9 modern and comfortable rooms offering quality products and furniture. The mix of light wooden floors, white walls and black steel create a beautiful harmony. The beds of the Belgian brand "Velda" will provide you with the ideal comfort for a quiet and restful night's sleep. Incredibly enough, from one of the rooms you can even see the Brussels Atomium.
The guesthouse also offers generous space for business meetings, including the renovated barn of the farmhouse. With its unique character and location, just 25 minutes drive from Brussels and close to the Brussels exhibition center, Amelhof proposes a great alternative to visit Brussels and its surrounding.

THE service

During our visit, we also discover a newly equipped gym attached to a spa built by "Relex" as well as a relaxation room with infrared light and himalayan stones. To access it, you will need to privatize it for a minimum of 2 hours for the price of 80 euros for two people. One can find a nice offer of quality beauty products (Marie Stella Maris) and various candles (conscious bougies, veni vidi vici), preferably of Belgian origin. Electric bicycles are also available to ride around this beautiful countryside.

THE HOst

During our visit we met Veerle, the main manager of the guest house. Veerle has been involved in the creation of the B&B with the owners who live next to the guest house. She tells us that it has always been a dream for the owners to open a bed and breakfast.

SUSTAINABILITY

We notice a certain environmental awareness in the research of the beauty products offered as well as in the materials used for the renovation of the farm  (Karbon'  architecture).

THE little extra

Amelhof produces its own honey which is served for breakfast and also offered as a souvenir in the rooms. The honey is also used to make a local beer called Horny Hornet.
