THE ATMOSPHERE
Since its opening in April 2019, the August Hotel, a former Augustine convent converted into a modern sanctuary, has been a great success. It is a combination of elements that makes it a unique hotel in Belgium and, above all, that generates such euphoria among its clientele. Situated on the site of Antwerp's "the green district", formerly a hospital complex for the Belgian army that has become a luxury development, the hotel is close to the vibrant new Zurenborg district, full of shops, restaurants and small cafés.
The hotel is often associated with two great names: the famous architect Vincent Van Duysen, who designed the entire premises, and Nick Bril, the famous chef of the restaurant Jane, whose former second in command runs the hotel's restaurant. when you enter August's house, you are simply intoxicated by the splendour of the seamless blend of modernity and the heritage of a historic building.
THE HOTEL
After 6 years of construction work, the hotel is a complex of 5 buildings with a total of 44 rooms/suites of different standing. respecting the heritage of the building, each room is unique with warm and conservative authenticity mixed with a subtle choice of high quality and modern materials. Each of the hotel's rooms provokes a feeling of astonishment and surprise, especially the lounge and bar which are located in the former private chapel of the sisters. Good to know, this part of the hotel is open to everyone, including non-residents of the hotel. Feel free to climb up to the top of the inner balcony to enjoy the view. We recommend the "Authentic" and "Signature Plus" rooms, which we believe to be the best value for money. Many packages are available with other hotel services such as spa, restaurant and bike rental. We recommend booking for Sunday or Monday for best-value deals.
THE service
August is a package where the excellence of the services only reinforces its unique character. To name but a few, August is the only one in Belgium to offer beauty products of the London-based brand Bamford. The restaurant, run by Nick Bril and Pieter Starmans, offers a seasonal menu with fresh, local ingredients, some of which are grown on the roof of the PAKT in Antwerp, an urban farm. The tableware elements have been specially designed for August. August's shop, located opposite the hotel entrance, offers healthy "on the go" take-away meals as well as the products found in the rooms.
THE HOsts
Mouche Van Hool, also owner of the Hotel Julien included in our selection, is at the center of this project. She herself is an avant-garde interior designer on the lookout for new trendy places, objects and products of choice.
SUSTAINABILITY
As with the Hotel Julien, environmental awareness is appreciated, especially for their choice of beauty products and ecological cleaning products as well as for the origin of the food in the restaurant. August also offers a natural swimming pool.
THE LITTLE EXTRA
The neighbourhood in which the hotel is located was unknown to us. It is apparently the newest and rising district in Antwerp.
