THE ATMOSPHERE
It is at the end of a dead end, at the top of the village of Gesves, that we discovered the gîte "Le champs du Coq". It offers a beautiful view of the Samson valley and the village of Gesves. The property’s neighbours consist of four horses, hens from the meadows and woods. It is rural! As soon as we entered the house, we felt an authentic and family charm to the place. The owner's son explained to us that it was his childhood home which was converted almost 10 years ago into a convivial and family gîte that can now accommodate up to 24 people. The main building is a period farmhouse that has been enlarged and refurbished with taste, respecting the original architecture while combining different natural decoration techniques. One finds in particular the Moroccan technique of tadelakt on the walls of certain rooms and bathrooms which gives a lot of warmth to the rooms, but also the use of concrete and mortex as well as wood which together participates in the harmony and soul of the place.
THE HOTEL
The gîte is composed of three spaces that together can accommodate up to 24 people: the Coq en Pâte (10), the Crête du Coq (12) and the Coq Licot (2). Le Coq en Pâte is located in the main farmhouse, described above. La Crête du Coq is located in the old stables and can accommodate up to 12 people, with two dorm style bedrooms sleeping six. This reminds us of a luxury mountain refuge. Finally, the Coq Licot is nestled in the middle of the garden in a small niche that looks like a tiny house, where you can stay with two people or alone. The gîte has everything you need to relax: sauna, jacuzzi, Nordic bath, swimming pool, tennis court and even a pizza oven!
THE service
This is a gîte, so there is no hotel service during your stay but the host and owner of the premises will carefully prepare your arrival. You will discover a warm and welcoming place. The beds will be made and the logs will be prepared near the fireplace. That's not all, the bed sheets used are made of linen (a dream!) from the Lineco brand (produced in Belgium), and the care and maintenance products are all organic. The real service which the Champ du Coq offers is the produce of its garden: the vegetable garden is entirely at your disposal (do not hesitate!) and the hens will provide you with fresh eggs every morning.
