THE ATMOSPHERE

The old post office building, built in 1898 in neo-gothic style, is located in the historical centre of Ghent. The entrance of the hotel is discreet, on the side of the "Graslei". We cross a small flowery inner courtyard and then climb the steps of a large stone staircase. A dark corridor with a dark wooden floor then appears. It might sound gloomy, but the jazzy music, the ambient fragrance and the warm accent lights quickly plunge us into an intimate and friendly atmosphere. One thing is certain, the hotel brings us back to the time of old with a touch of luxurious modernity.

THE HOTEL

1898 The Post offers 38 rooms of varying sizes and shapes. We count 13 different room categories. Always referring to the theme of the Post, one is called "stamp", the other "postcard" or "letter". Regardless of their size, each of them plunges us into an intimate atmosphere. The creaky floor, the dark green walls, the dark wooden furniture create a very cosy interior. Small bottles of alcohol and a shaker are at your disposal to make the cocktail that you will have previously tasted at the Cobbler. Cobbler is the hotel bar, also one of the most popular cocktail bars in Ghent. About 85% of the bar's customers are external guests of the hotel, the rule is 'first come, first served'. You can understand its success: its intimate and warm atmosphere, its modern Venetian blinds mixed with old period wood and, above all, its famous barman who will concoct the best cocktails for you.

THE service

As soon as you enter the hotel, you will feel the excellence of the service offered. The staff is a team of 20 people and is extremely smiling, helpful and attentive to detail. The breakfast buffet is served in an open kitchen adjacent to the hotel bar. Beauty products are from the famous brand "Le Labo". A terrace is open in summer from Thursday to Sunday.

We met Sven, the hotel manager, who is extremely helpful and proud of the hotel he works for.

sustainability

As much local produce as possible is offered for breakfast. The hotel works with the organisation "Save The Queen" to create their honey gin used as a base for cocktails at the hotel bar. On the second floor of the hotel, you can see the beehives on the roofs of the hotel.

THE little extra

We admire the skill and respect with which it has managed to make this historic place a friendly, harmonious and above all, extremely authentic nest.
